Nowadays at the railway system of Russian Railways CJSC are used ground light signals with metal frames. Such frames are exposed to external factors, require vandalism protection, and also the construction of used ground light signals doesn’t provide its safe operation in full, because they should be under constant control of operating personnel.
Against Russian Railways JSC order the Polymer Cluster enterprises have fulfilled the scope of works concerning ground light signal design with frame made of structural polymeric material.
In addition to its lightness, strength and vandal resistance construction ground light signals made of structural polymeric material are UV resistant and have fire resistance level 0. Such frames can be used within temperature range from -60ºС up to +90ºС, frame component parts are 1,5-2 times lighter than parts of metal ground light signal.
Joint use of new frames together with LED semiconductor light sources designed in recent years, which have higher light efficiency, safety, and longer service life comparing with electric filament lamp, can create new ground light signal design.
Goals and objectives achieved during R&D work: material selection, construction documentation for products and tools using 3D complex simulation system and engineering analysis, set equipment parameters for pilot batch production, moulds production, tool test fulfillment and pilot models. Pilot batch of two light signals in the amount of 12 units has successfully passed tests of Russian Railways JSC. The pilot light signals are actually taking operational tests at Oktyabrskaya railway.
The abovementioned project was demonstrated to Grigory Rapota, the Secretary of Union State of Russian and Belarus, during his official visit to Saint Petersburg in November 2013, when he also visited the Plastic Processing Plant n.a. “Komsomolskaya Pravda” LLC.
